CCH Axcess pricing is only partly public. Wolters Kluwer lists store prices for its small-firm tax bundles and for Client Collaboration: CCH Axcess Tax Essentials is $2,814 for 100 returns, $4,039 for 200 and $5,264 for 400, read from the Wolters Kluwer tax store on 16 September 2026. CCH Axcess Engagement, the trial balance and workpaper module, shows no price at all. It is sold in packs of 5 or 50 engagements plus additional users, and the store says Login to View Price.
So a firm budgeting for the suite can put real numbers against the tax side and has to get a quote for the engagement side. This page lays out exactly what is published, how each module is packaged, why the figures quoted around the web disagree with each other, and how to tell whether a firm doing mostly compilations needs Engagement at all.
What Wolters Kluwer publishes, module by module
CCH Axcess is not one product with one price. It is a cloud suite of separately licensed modules: Tax, Engagement, Client Collaboration, Document, Practice, Workstream and more, and each one is packaged differently. The table below is everything with a figure or a stated packaging model on the Wolters Kluwer tax store as of 16 September 2026.
| Module and package | Listed price | How it is packaged |
|---|---|---|
| CCH Axcess Tax Essentials 100 | $2,814 | 100 return authorizations, five states included |
| CCH Axcess Tax Essentials 200 | $4,039 | 200 return authorizations, five states included |
| CCH Axcess Tax Essentials 400 | $5,264 | 400 return authorizations, five states included |
| Additional returns on Tax Essentials | $60.55 each | Per return above the bundle |
| CCH Axcess Client Collaboration 75 | $3,092 | Package sized at 75 |
| CCH Axcess Client Collaboration 150 | $6,067 | Package sized at 150 |
| CCH Axcess Client Collaboration 300 | $11,898 | Package sized at 300 |
| CCH Axcess Engagement Essentials (Financial Prep) | Login to View Price | 5 or 50 engagement packs, renewable or non-renewable, plus additional users |
| CCH Axcess Engagement Pro | Login to View Price | 5 or 50 engagement packs, renewable or non-renewable, plus additional users |
Two conditions matter before you plan around the Tax Essentials numbers. The store states the packages are for new customers only and cannot be bought by existing CCH Axcess or ProSystem fx Tax customers. And Wolters Kluwer describes the Essentials line as configured for small firms, so a larger practice should expect a quoted CCH Axcess Tax contract rather than a store bundle.
CCH Axcess Tax pricing: what the Essentials bundles cover
Each Tax Essentials bundle covers the six core federal return types: 1040, 1040-NR, 1065, 1120, 1120S and 990. Five states are included, after which you either pay per state or choose the unlimited-states option. The price includes the cloud software, self-guided training through the Wolters Kluwer learning portal and support by chat, phone, knowledge base and community.
The arithmetic that decides which bundle is cheaper is simple. Going from 100 to 200 returns costs $1,225 more, or about $12.25 per extra return, and 200 to 400 costs another $1,225, about $6.13 per return. Buying 100 returns and paying the $60.55 overage instead gets expensive fast: 50 extra returns at the overage rate is $3,027.50, more than the step up to the 200 bundle. If your count is anywhere near a boundary, buy the next bundle up.
The store also lists renewal bundles, including an unlimited renewal and a pay-as-you-prepare renewal, which is how the ongoing cost is handled after the first purchase. Ask what the renewal price is for your bundle before you sign, because the first-year figure and the renewal figure are separate lines.
CCH Axcess Engagement pricing: why there is no number
This is the module most CPA firms are actually asking about, and it is the one without a price. CCH Axcess Engagement is the cloud home for the trial balance, working papers and the financial statements built from them, and it replaces the desktop CCH ProSystem fx Engagement binder for firms that migrate. It comes in two versions on the store. Engagement Essentials, labeled Financial Prep, is aimed at small firms preparing statements and business returns, and connects directly to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Engagement Pro is the fuller cloud workpaper management and trial balance toolset, the one a firm running audits and reviews would be quoted.
Both are sold the same way: packs of 5 or 50 engagements, each available as renewable or non-renewable, with additional users bought separately. That packaging tells you what drives your quote even without the price. Your cost scales with the number of client engagements you open in a year and the number of people who need access, not just with the size of the firm.
The practical consequence is that the quote you receive is a function of three counts you should have ready before you call: engagements per year split by type, the number of users including seasonal staff, and whether you need Pro for assurance work or Essentials for preparation work. Firms that have not separated those numbers tend to get quoted Pro for everyone. If you are still weighing the desktop product against the cloud one, or against a different vendor, the trade-offs are compared on CCH ProSystem fx Engagement alternatives and head to head on CaseWare vs CCH ProSystem fx Engagement.
Client Collaboration and the rest of the suite
Client Collaboration is the one non-tax module we found with a public store price. It covers electronic engagement letters, tax organizers, document request lists and e-signatures, with a client mobile app, and the store lists it at $3,092, $6,067 and $11,898 for packages sized at 75, 150 and 300. For most of the other modules, the route to a figure is a sales conversation.
Before you add Client Collaboration to a quote, check which part of it you would really use. For some firms the organizers are not the bottleneck at all and the harder problem is earlier in the relationship: qualifying and onboarding the right new clients in the first place, which is the job of a dedicated client intake and discovery tool rather than a tax-season portal.
Why CCH Axcess prices online disagree
Search for CCH Axcess pricing and you will find figures that do not match the store. There are three reasons, and they apply to nearly every quote-only product in this category.
First, reviews date. At least one widely read review lists a lower entry price for the 100-return Tax Essentials bundle than the $2,814 on the store today, because store prices move each season and the review has not. Second, figures get attached to the wrong module: a per-return tax price gets repeated as if it were the price of the whole suite, or of Engagement. Third, ProSystem fx and Axcess get mixed together, even though ProSystem fx is the installed product and Axcess is the cloud one, sold on different terms. We found the same pattern when checking Accounting CS pricing, where the most-quoted figures trace to a 2014 review.
The fix is to budget only from two sources: the Wolters Kluwer store for the modules it prices, and a written quote for the rest. If you want a published engagement-platform number to test a quote against, AuditFile is the one vendor in the category that lists one, at $199 and $299 per user per month, broken down on AuditFile pricing.
How to get a CCH Axcess quote you can compare
Ask for the quote as separate lines, not a bundle total. You want each module priced on its own, the first-year price and the renewal price for each, the engagement pack size and whether it is renewable, the per-user price for additional users including seasonal staff, any implementation, migration or training fees, and the annual increase cap in writing.
Then compare it against what the firm actually produces. Pull last year's engagement list and count audits, reviews, compilations and preparation engagements. If assurance work is a meaningful share of revenue, Engagement Pro is proportionate and the quote is buying the working papers that carry you through peer review. If nearly everything is compilations, preparation engagements and monthly management statements, you are pricing a workpaper platform to produce a statement set.
Do you need CCH Axcess Engagement at all?
For a firm that signs audit or review reports, yes, or a comparable engagement platform. The working papers and the review trail are part of the engagement. For a firm whose recurring output is compilations and monthly statements for owners and lenders, the job is narrower: take an adjusted trial balance or a QuickBooks or Xero export and produce a formatted P&L, balance sheet and cash flow that tie, with the analysis written.
That is what AIStatements does, in about a minute, from $39 a month, and the Firm plan covers 25 client companies with preparer and reviewer sign-off and white-label packs for $349 a month, with no engagement packs to count and no per-user pricing. You can run a client's export through the converter at the top of this page and see the output before you ask anyone for a quote. How that fits a compilation practice is covered on financial statement compilation software.
Most firms that go this route keep one engagement platform for the assurance work that needs it and move the recurring statement work somewhere cheaper, which is usually the difference between buying a 50-engagement pack and a 5-engagement pack.
