Digits costs $65 a month on Essentials and $100 a month on Core, the plan it marks most popular. Pro is listed at $250 a month but still shows "Coming soon", so today there are two plans a business can actually buy. Every plan comes with a 30-day free trial. Those figures were read off digits.com/pricing on 30 September 2026. Accounting firms buy through the Digits Accounting Partner Program, which publishes no per-client figure. Since April 2026 Digits charges firms only for clients whose books are at least 95 percent zero-touch.

That is the short answer. The rest of this article covers what each plan includes and what it leaves out, what Digits costs over a full year once you count the switch from QuickBooks or Xero, and when a cheaper reporting layer gets you what you wanted without changing ledgers.

Digits pricing by plan

Two rows in that table matter more than the rest. Custom reports, which Digits describes as "build and publish investor-ready reports", and custom dashboards are available on Essentials and Core only through a firm partner, meaning an accounting firm in the Digits program builds them for you. Budget vs. actuals is a Pro feature, and Pro is not on sale yet. So a founder who signs up for Core today gets live financials and the standard statements, but not self-serve investor reports or budget variance.

How much does Digits accounting cost per year?

A single business on Core pays $1,200 a year, and on Essentials $780. Digits prices per business, so a founder with a holding company and an operating company on Core pays $2,400, and three companies come to $3,600 before any payment processing fees on invoices or bill pay. There is no annual discount shown on the pricing page.

The subscription is the smaller part of year one if you are coming from QuickBooks Online or Xero. Digits is its own general ledger, not an add-on that reads your existing file, so switching means moving your history, your chart of accounts, open bills and invoices, and the bank rules your bookkeeper built. Digits connects to more than 12,000 financial institutions, but a feed only reaches back so far. For older months, or an account at a bank the feed does not cover, the usual route is to convert the PDF bank statements into a spreadsheet and import the transactions from there. Budget a few hours of your bookkeeper's time per company for the move, and ask your CPA whether they will work from Digits exports at tax time. Digits itself says it does not file taxes; it produces a tax package you hand to your preparer.

Digits pricing for accounting firms

Firms do not buy the $65 or $100 plans client by client. They join the Digits Accounting Partner Program, and in April 2026 Digits moved partners to outcome-based pricing. Under that model, reported by Insightful Accountant on 8 April 2026, a client qualifies when 95 percent or more of its transactions are zero-touch, meaning nobody at the firm created or edited them before the books were closed. The firm is charged only for clients that qualify. A client that still needs heavy manual work costs nothing on Digits until the automation catches up.

What Digits does not publish is the per-client figure itself. An older partner table with per-client rates by firm size circulated widely and still appears on directory sites, but Digits withdrew it from its own site during 2026, so treat any per-client number you see quoted without a date as stale. Get the rate in writing, and ask two questions the model raises: how the 95 percent is measured each month, and what happens to the price when a client drops below it after a messy quarter.

For a firm, the bigger cost is the same one a business faces, only multiplied. Every client moved to Digits is a client moved off QuickBooks or Xero, with its history, its payroll connection and its tax workflow. Firms that ran client books through Botkeeper until it closed in February 2026 are weighing exactly this trade now, and the options are laid out job by job in Botkeeper alternatives for accounting firms.

Is Digits worth it for a small business?

Digits is worth it if you are starting books from scratch, or your current books are a mess you would rebuild anyway, and you want AI to do the categorization and reconciliation. At $100 a month, Core is priced like a good bookkeeping app with the bookkeeping largely automated, and the live statements and dashboards are well built. A two-person startup with no accountant yet gets a lot for that.

It is harder to justify when the books are already kept, by you, a bookkeeper or a CPA firm, and what you actually wanted was better reporting. Then you are paying for a new ledger, and doing a migration, to get statements and investor reports, and on Core the investor-ready custom reports still come through a firm partner. The full comparison with QuickBooks, Xero and Puzzle is on Digits accounting alternatives, and Kick accounting alternatives covers the multi-entity owner who has the same question about Kick.

Digits vs keeping QuickBooks, on cost

What a small business pays per company for the reporting it needs. Digits read 30 September 2026; AIStatements from our pricing page.
RouteWhat you payWhat changesInvestor or lender-ready pack

Keep QuickBooks or Xero, add AIStatementsYour current subscription plus $24/mo billed yearly, or $59 for five companiesNothing, it reads an exportTied P&L, balance sheet and cash flow with written analysis; board-deck layout and investor update draft on Growth

The table is not an argument against Digits. It is an argument for being clear about which problem you are paying to solve. If the time goes into coding transactions, a new AI ledger attacks the right problem. If the time goes into turning finished books into something a board, an investor or a bank reads, the ledger was never the bottleneck.

Cheaper than a new ledger when the problem is reporting

AIStatements works from the books you already keep. Export a general ledger or trial balance from QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero or any system that writes a CSV, and upload it with the tool at the top of this page. It builds the profit and loss statement, the balance sheet and the statement of cash flows, checks that they tie, computes margins, burn, runway and the current ratio, writes the analysis in plain English, and exports PDF and Excel in about a minute.

Starter is $24 a month billed yearly for one company. Growth is $59 a month billed yearly for five companies and adds consolidation, quarterly and trailing-twelve-month views, a board-deck layout and an investor update draft, which is the part Digits keeps for Pro or for firm partners. Firm is $174 a month billed yearly for 25 client companies, with a reviewer approval step before a pack leaves the workspace. The full breakdown is on the pricing page, and the monthly investor pack itself is described on investor reporting.

AIStatements does not keep books. It does not categorize transactions, reconcile bank accounts or pay bills. If you want AI to do that work inside the QuickBooks file you already have, the add-ons are compared with their prices in AI bookkeeping software pricing.

Does Digits have a free trial?

Yes. Digits offers a 30-day free trial on its plans, according to the FAQ on its pricing page. Use it on a real bank account with at least one full month of activity, and count how many transactions it codes correctly without you touching them, because that number is what you are paying for and, if you are a firm, what your partner price will depend on.

Does Digits do my taxes?

No. Digits says it gets your books ready for tax time but does not file taxes itself. You export its tax package for your preparer, or work with one of its accounting partners. Plan for that hand-off before you switch, particularly if your CPA has a set way of receiving client books.

AIStatements turns a bookkeeping export into a board-ready statement pack with the analysis written. Try the financial statement generator with a sample company, no account needed.
