Thomson Reuters does not publish a price for Guided Assurance in 2026. Read on 15 October 2026, the product page offers a demo, an interactive tour and a contact form, and the upgrade page for SMART Practice Aids customers promises a promotional price without printing it. The only reliable Guided Assurance cost is the one in a written quote, so the useful question is what that quote will contain and what to compare it against.
That matters more this year than usual. Thomson Reuters says SMART sunsets on December 31, 2026, which puts thousands of small firms on PPC methodology in front of the same renewal conversation within a few months. Below is what Thomson Reuters actually publishes, what drives the number, a benchmark from the one audit platform that prints its price, and a cheaper route for firms whose work is mostly compilations and reviews.

Thomson Reuters Guided Assurance pricing as of October 2026
We read the Guided Assurance product page, the Engagement Manager and Guided Assurance bundle pages and the SMART upgrade page on 15 October 2026. None shows a dollar figure. This is what a buyer can establish from Thomson Reuters itself.
| Question | What the vendor shows |
|---|---|
| List price | None published |
| Plan or tier names | None published |
| Licensing unit | Not stated on the product page |
| Free trial | None offered; Request a demo and Take the tour instead |
| Offer for SMART customers | "Buy Guided Assurance at a promotional price" with "equivalent SMART Practice Aids and Checkpoint Tools at no additional cost"; no amount or deadline |
| How to buy | Contact a representative, or call 800-968-8900 |
| Usually sold with | Engagement Manager (formerly AdvanceFlow) and CoCounsel Audit, as the Cloud Audit Suite |
Two renames make the research harder than it should be. Guided Assurance used to be Checkpoint Engage, and Engagement Manager used to be AdvanceFlow. Older reviews, forum threads and price anecdotes use the old names, and most of them predate the current bundle, so they are not a sound basis for a budget.
How much does Guided Assurance cost?
Guided Assurance costs whatever Thomson Reuters quotes your firm, because no list price exists. The quote is built from the number of users, which modules and PPC methodology content you license, whether Engagement Manager and CoCounsel Audit are bundled, the contract term, and any promotional pricing for SMART customers. Ask for every one of those as a separate line.
The promotional offer deserves the most attention. It is framed for SMART customers moving before the sunset, and the page does not say whether the discount applies only to the first year. A firm that signs a discounted first year and renews at list in year two has bought a different product from the one it budgeted for. Ask for the renewal price in writing, and ask whether the included SMART Practice Aids and Checkpoint Tools stay included at renewal.
Is Guided Assurance worth it for a small CPA firm?
It is worth it for a firm whose audit work is built on PPC programs and whose staff are trained on them. Guided Assurance keeps that methodology, moves it to the cloud and adds AI risk identification, real-time collaboration and automatic PPC updates, which ends the annual library installs. For an audit practice, the least disruptive migration has real value.
It is a harder case for a firm that bought SMART mainly for its Compilation and Review module. Thomson Reuters' product page leads with risk-based audits and single audits. If audits are a small share of your hours, you would be paying for an audit management system to keep a compilation checklist workflow, and the honest comparison is with lighter options, which we lay out on the PPC SMART Practice Aids alternative page.
Guided Assurance cost compared with other audit software
Almost the whole category is quote-only, which is why a benchmark matters. AuditFile is the exception: it prints its prices, and they were unchanged when we re-read the pricing page on 15 October 2026.
| Product | Published price | Trial | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thomson Reuters Guided Assurance | None, quote only | None | Promotional price for SMART customers, amount not shown |
| AuditFile Professional | $199 per user per month, $179 on an annual agreement | 14 days | Up to 15 users |
| AuditFile Pro Plus | $299 per user per month, $249 on an annual agreement | 14 days | Unlimited users |
| CaseWare Working Papers and Cloud | None, quote only | Not published | Cloud licensed per active user |
| CCH Axcess and ProSystem fx Engagement | Partly published for tax modules, engagement quote only | Not published | Natural fit for firms on the Wolters Kluwer suite |
| AIStatements | From $24 a month billed yearly | One-time demo | Statement drafting only, no audit file |
A quick way to use the benchmark: five users on AuditFile Professional at the annual rate come to $179 times five times twelve, or $10,740 a year. If a Guided Assurance and Engagement Manager quote for the same five people lands well above that, ask what the PPC content and Checkpoint access are worth to you on their own. Our audit software cost guide for small CPA firms works through the same arithmetic for the rest of the category.
Thomson Reuters sells its practice management and write-up products the same way. If Accounting CS is also on your renewal list, our Accounting CS pricing notes cover how those quotes are put together.
Questions to ask before you sign the Guided Assurance quote
The SMART deadline gives the vendor leverage, so go into the call with the questions written down. These are the ones that change the number or the risk.
- What is the price per user, or per firm, for year one, and what is the renewal price for year two?
- Which PPC titles and Checkpoint Tools are included, and do they stay included at renewal?
- Is Engagement Manager required, or can we keep our current engagement manager? Thomson Reuters says Guided Assurance works with the engagement manager of your choice.
- What happens to engagement files created in SMART after December 31, 2026, and will they stay readable for peer review?
- Is onboarding or data migration billed separately?
- Does the promotional price require signing before a specific date?
The methodology switch is also a quality management event. Under SQMS No. 1, the methodology and software a firm relies on are resources its quality management system has to cover, so the move should be documented and monitored like any other change, and a tool built to track obligations and map them to controls keeps that record in one place instead of a folder of emails.
A cheaper route when the statements are the real job
For many small firms, the expensive hours in a compilation or review were never the checklist. They were in turning a client's trial balance into a formatted, tied set of statements. That step does not need an audit platform.
AIStatements takes an adjusted trial balance as a CSV, or a QuickBooks or Xero export, and returns an income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement that tie to each other, with a written analysis of what changed, in about a minute per company. The price is published: from $24 a month billed yearly for one company, with Growth and Firm plans for a client roster. It keeps no SSARS documentation and issues no accountant's report, so firms pair it with their PPC guides or an engagement platform. How it fits a compilation practice is on our financial statement compilation software page.
The practical split for a firm leaving SMART is simple. Get the Guided Assurance quote in writing if audits are a meaningful share of your work. Move the statement drafting to a tool you can price today, and run a few clients through it before year-end, so January does not depend on how fast a sales cycle closes.
